1977: Benny Parsons fends off Cale Yarborough down the stretch to win the Music City USA 420 on Nashville Speedway’s .596-mile fairgrounds track. Parsons started second and led 143 of the 420 laps — including the final 38 — to register the sixth of his 21 career victories in NASCAR’s top series. Yarborough led 275 laps and wound up one second behind at the finish. Pole-starter and hometown favorite Darrell Waltrip was third, two laps down.
