Justin Allgaier Earns Vindication at Darlington

Justin Allgaier felt he “gave one away” at Dover last week, and said he was ready to “regroup” for Saturday’s Xfinity Series race at Darlington. This he did, winning the Mahindra ROXOR 250 thanks to an effort from his entire JR Motorsports team. The team followed up their performance at Dover, where they finished with all four cars in the top five, with a one-two at Darlington.

Allgaier was personally vindicated after being runner-up himself at Dover, and snapped a 34-race winless streak. A pit stop at the end of stage two handed Allgaier the lead from third.

“This team right here—the pit stops today were killing it,” said Allgaier. “They were awesome. This Hellman’s Camaro was so fast. Just a testament to the 7 guys, but everybody at JR Motorsports—they’ve been working so hard. It’s showing with our finishes, not just our 7 team, but all of us.”

“We’ve been doing this way too long,” he added, referring to his winless streak, “and you know how great it feels to get back to Victory Lane… And by the way, it was awesome racing my teammates. That was probably the coolest part, racing my teammates all day, so hats off to those guys.”

This time it was Noah Gragson who finished second for JR Motorsports. He scored his eighth top five in a season where he’s already won twice.

“A 1-2 finish for our company, that was great,” Gragson said. “We had great points today. Two stage wins and a second place. I wanted that win. I was ripping the top. I went on a bike ride this morning with Justin Allgaier, right at sunrise. He said, ‘Man, I’m going to run the bottom,’ and I knew he was going to run the bottom.”

“We ran at the fence all day. He got the win. Hopefully, we’re selling T-shirts out on the concourse for ripping the top. I don’t know if anyone was higher than us, and there’s barely scrape on the right side.”

Riley Herbst, who finished third in his Stewart-Haas Ford, spoke to his improvement at the track: “Last year we finished probably a lap down in 19th, so to come here and finish third and to honestly have a top-five car is just a testament to Stewart-Haas Racing and everyone at Ford Performance.  This isn’t one of my favorite racetracks, and I still think we need about a tenth a lap to try and win these races here in Darlington, but we’re getting closer and it’s good.”

John Hunter Nemechek came off a Camping World Truck Series victory to finish fourth, followed by Sam Mayer. Landon Cassill, Brandon Jones, Allmendinger, Daniel Hemric and Austin Hill rounded out the top 10, meaning Allmendinger has recorded a top-ten finish in every Xfinity race this season.
