Joey Logano’s ongoing feud with his former teammate Denny Hamlin turned much more serious Sunday at Auto Club Speedway.
At Bristol the week prior, Logano took offense at an on-track move by Hamlin that sent him crashing into the wall. After the race Logano confronted Hamlin while Hamlin was still in his racecar. Logano had to be pushed back by crewmembers.
Sunday the two were battling for the lead on the final laps of the Auto Club 400 when disaster stuck. After a restart with 11 laps to go Logano and Hamlin were door to door over the course of the final laps, with Hamlin squeezing by on the outside as they crossed the finish line for the final lap. The two were door to door entering turn three with Hamlin on the outside. The two came together and began to crash. As the crash started Kyle Busch shot by on the outside. The duo spun with Logano’s Ford scarping along the outside wall with Hamlin’s Toyota shot to the inside of the track and headfirst into the inside wall. Logano limped across the line in sixth, while Hamlin collapsed after climbing from his wrecked car. He was assisted by medical personnel, but was awake and alert when he flown to a local hospital as a precaution. Sunday evening Joe Gibbs Racing said Hamlin would remain in the hospital overnight for observation. MORE>>>
