DAYTONA BEACH Fl. — Rookie Austin Dillon put the fabled number 3 Chevy on the pole for the 2014 Daytona 500 Sunday. Dillon, who had been fast in the practices leading up to qualifying, put down a lap of 196.019 late in the session in the Richard Childress Racing Chevy; he was the only driver to break the 196 mile per hour mark.

“It is very cool,” Dillon said. “I was just happy to get inside that car. Another big thing was just holding the wheel straight and going through the gears correct. It was a good run, man. The ECR guys did great this weekend.”

Martin Truex Jr. making his first appearance for Furniture Row Racing will start alongside Dillon on the front row after his lap of 195.892.MORE>>>
