1959: Fireball Roberts drives to the last of his four victories in NASCAR’s Convertible Division, outrunning Joe Weatherly by nearly a full lap to win at Darlington (S.C.) Raceway. Roberts started 10th and led 120 of 219 laps. Weatherly held on for second place with Larry Frank third. Pole-starter Curtis Turner, Weatherly’s teammate in Thunderbirds owned by Doc White, led 76 laps early before crashing.
