Daniel Hemric hasn’t had a lot of press in 2019. The Richard Childress Racing driver is competing for Rookie of the Year Honors in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup series behind the wheel of the No. 8 Chevrolet for RCR.
He scored a career-best fifth at Talladega in only his 10th start of the year and the 14th Cup start overall. The 28-year old has already made some noise at Charlotte. In last week’s Monster Energy Open Hemric won the pole and led 25 laps before a late race accident ended his chances of moving on to the All-Star Race.
Hemric continued to look fast during Thursday’s qualifying grabbing a top 10 starting spot for Sunday. Saturday, Hemric showed he may just be a contender in NASCAR’s longest race finishing second in final practice.
“We’ve had good speed,” Hemric said. “The drivability has gotten better and better as we went. It’s one of those things where we are trying to balance the car and get the ability to make the transition between day to night. I feel OK about it, just have to get into the race and see how it goes.” MORE>>>
