1979: Bobby Allison uses a late-race surge past Richard Petty to win the Northwestern Bank 400 at North Wilkesboro (N.C.) Speedway. Petty, who led 211 of the 400 laps, fades to 3.5 seconds back at the checkered flag. Pole-starter Benny Parsons takes third as Dale Earnhardt claims fourth, matching his best finish to that point in his career.
