1921: Wendell Scott, the first African-American to win a race in NASCAR’s top series, is born. Scott, a NASCAR Hall of Fame nominee, competed in 495 events over 13 years and notched his lone victory at Jacksonville, Florida’s Speedway Park on Dec. 1, 1963.
