1977: Benny Parsons holds off Richard Petty by .45 seconds to win the Coca-Cola 500 at Pocono Raceway, his seventh career victory in NASCAR’s top series. Parsons started fourth and led 118 of the 200 laps. Petty’s runner-up finish moved him into the points lead past Cale Yarborough, who wound up sixth. Pole-starter Darrell Waltrip took third.
