1983: Darrell Waltrip completes a late-race pass of Bobby Allison to cap a dominant day at Martinsville (Va.) Speedway, winning the Virginia National Bank 500. Waltrip, who led 296 of the 500 laps, held off runner-up Harry Gant by .8 seconds at the end. Allison held on for third place, just ahead of Joe Ruttman and pole-starter Ricky Rudd.
