1974: Richard Petty rolls from the pole position to a dominant win in the Capital City 500 at Richmond Fairgrounds Raceway. Petty took command with Cale Yarborough crashed out in the 121st lap and led the rest of the 500-lap main event on the .542-mile asphalt track. Benny Parsons finished second, half a lap behind at the finish. Richie Panch took third, seven laps off the pace.
