1931: NASCAR Hall of Famer Junior Johnson is born. Johnson, a mythic figure in his home of Wilkes County, N.C., won 50 races as a driver and six championships as a car owner in NASCAR’s premier series and was voted into the NASCAR Hall’s inaugural class.
