1972: Pole-starter Richard Petty laps the field on a steamy day at Texas World Speedway, leading 186 of 250 laps to win the Lone Star 500. Bobby Allison finished second, one lap down at the end. Coo Coo Marlin took third place, six laps off Petty’s pace. Only 25 of 44 starters were running at the finish, with 14 retiring with engine failure.

He holds a BS degree in communications, a Masters degree in psychology and is currently a PhD candidate majoring in psychology. He is currently the weekend Motorsports Editor for Autoweek.
