Showdown Win Gets Earnhardt In To All Star Race

Rick Hendrick congratulates Dale Earnhardt, Jr. in victory lane following the Sprint Showdown. The win gets Earnhardt a chance at a million in the Sprint All Star Race.

Charlotte, N.C. -Three drivers from the Sprint Showdown transferred into the All Star Race. Dale Earnhardt, Jr., transferred in with a dominating performance in the 40 lap showdown.

“This is all about going fast right out of the gate,” said Earnhardt. “The credit goes to the guys, giving it the speed it needed to run like that.”

“I never assume I’m going to win the vote,” Earnhardt added. “The fan support to me is a gift, and I don’t ever take it for granted.”

AJ Allmendinger was the second transfer driver finishing second. Allmendinger battled to the spot and overcame a flat tire before the green flag dropped, forcing a trip to pit road from the pole position as the green flag dropped. Staying on the lead lap and pitting for tires during the competition caution at lap 20 helped propel the No. 22 past Jamie McMurray and into the big show.

Bobby Labonte was the winner of the final spot with the fan vote.
