UPS will move its primary sponsorship of the Roush Fenway Racing No. 6 car and driver David Ragan to an associate sponsorship of Roush Fenway’s No. 99 car and driver Carl Edwards beginning in 2012.
The company decreased its team involvement but is keeping its NASCAR deal, with a multiyear agreement to extend its status as the sport’s official logistics partner, meaning it will have space in the garage at the racetracks for pickups and deliveries.
UPS, which recently completed a four-year, $100 million sponsorship deal with about 70 colleges, has sponsored Dale Jarrett, David Reutimann and Ragan in the Cup series. It had been with Ragan for the last three years.

David Ragan won his first Sprint Cup race in July at Daytona.
Ragan won one race—in July at Daytona—but failed to make the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup in any of his three seasons with UPS.
“It has been an honor and privilege having David Ragan serve as UPS Racing’s official brand ambassador on and off the track during the last three seasons,” UPS vice president Ron Rogowski said in a statement.
“David’s dedication, work ethic and personal integrity are second to none and we always will be grateful for the many contributions he and the entire No. 6 team have made to the success of our motorsports program.”
Instead of being a primary sponsor for an entire season, UPS now will be the primary sponsor for only one race for Edwards—at Kentucky Speedway.
“The shift in our program was a strategic business decision that allows us to focus on the elements that drive the best return on our investment, including continuing our relationship with Roush Fenway Racing,” Rogowski said.
