Fontana, Calif., - Carl Edwards sits atop the Sprint Cup point’s standings after a sixth place finish in Sunday’s Auto Club 400 at Auto Club Speedway.
Edwards was excited the finish was a wild one considering the Roush Fenway driver wasn’t in the mix.
“For our Aflac team to come out of here leading the points is big considering how we ran all day,” said Edwards. “We really weren’t that good.”
Matt Kenseth credits the team and great adjustments for the great car at the end of the race in Fontana, but for Kenseth the good finish isn’t enough.

”It is a good day for us,” said Kenseth. “You are always greedy and want more.”
Ryan Newman added another top-10 finish to the tally and that consistency is part of the reason Newman sits second in point’s just nine markers behind Edwards. However, Newman did not have an error proof day.
“We had some bad pit stops and they we under green fortunately at least one time I should say for sure I shouldn’t say two,” said Newman, who added crew chief Tony Gibson made a great call staying out during the final caution.
“It was kind of all based off of what the guys did in front of us and where I wanted to be on the restart,” Newman added. “The outside was definitely to my advantage today.”
