Hampton, Ga., - Greg Biffle was hanging around toward the bottom half of the pre-Chase for the Sprint Cup field and after Sunday night’s Emory Healthcare 500 at the Atlanta Motor Speedway he’ll need a good showing in Richmond to even make a run at the championship.
Biffle spun on lap 152 after contact with Ryan Newman racing three-wide. Biffle spinning blocked the track and Elliott Sadler had nowhere to go. Biffle said he was unaware they were three-wide.
“It was my fault,” said Biffle. “I didn’t know we were still three-wide and I guess I cut down on the 39 [Newman]. He certainly didn’t cut us any slack.

“I’ll have to watch the replay before I make my judgment,” Biffle added. “It looked like I had cleared him, along with the 43, and I just turned down into the corner and, unfortunately, he was there.”
Newman said Biffle may have thought he was clear, and wasn’t.
“He just cut across my nose,” said Newman. “It knocked the fender in and cost us a bunch of track position. Track position was probably a bigger hit than the fender itself.”
Elliott Sadler was also involved in the incident. Unfortunately for Sadler there was nowhere to go, and no way to avoid contact.
“I saw the 16 spinning and kind of blocking the track and me and Harvick tried to go under him,” said Sadler. “I couldn’t go any lower because of the 29 car and I think the 16 was standing in the gas trying to stay out of the wall and just came down and clipped us in the right rear and turned us head-on into the wall.”
Sadler had recently had a bought of bad luck, most notably a head-on crash with a wall at Pocono that stripped the engine out of the car. Sadler said although the contact with Biffle was anything but easy, it was nothing like Pocono.
“I hit where a SAFER barrier is in turn four,” said Sadler. “We didn’t pull any G’s at all, so I’m thankful they had that here in turn four at Atlanta.”
Newman was eighth, Sadler finished the night in the 41st position, and Biffle was 36th.
