Concord, N.C. – Very rarely does Jeff Burton lose his political cool, but Sunday night’s Coca Cola 600 pushed the Mayor of NASCAR to the edge.
The incident that ruffled the feathers of one of the most collected in the NASCAR garage was on the final restart on lap 376 of 400. Kyle Busch, Clint Bowyer and Jeff Burton went three wide. Busch drifted up and into Burton with the result being a cut tire for Burton and no chance of a win.
“He’s trying to make something happen,” said Burton. “Which I don’t have a problem with, so he runs into me and cut my left-rear tire, then I have a problem with it.”

“He’s real aggressive,” Burton added. “That’s cool, but when he starts affecting me with his aggressiveness I just won’t put up with it.”
“I’ve been around here long enough,” said Burton. “I will not tolerate it.”
Burton went to Busch immediately following the race and voiced his opinion of the incident.
“He said I didn’t race him very nicely,” said Busch, who finished in the third position. “He said I ran into him and I don’t know what I could have done to have made that work without touching.”
“I have no idea what transpired there,” Busch added. “I haven’t seen the replay. I didn’t get a whole lot of room and I did the best I could.”
Busch said at the end of the race Burton was ‘real mad at me’.
“I guess all that nice respect stuff that he talked about earlier this week is out the window,” said Busch. “I guess that’s how I race everybody.”
Burton finished in the 25th position and is eighth in Sprint Cup point’s standings, 241 behind leader Kevin Harvick.
