Matt Kenseth and AJ Allmendinger spoiled a perfect sweep of chasers in the top ten positions in the AAA 400 Sunday at Dover International Speedway.
Kenseth, who missed the Chase by 38 points, had a solid performance finishing third and Allmendinger finished seventh. For Kenseth, who missed Chase for the Sprint Cup by 38 points, business is still going on as usual.
“I think no matter where you’re at in the points,” said Kenseth. “Whether you’re in the Chase or out of the Chase or where we are, I think you always want to get your best effort and best finish every day.”
“My approach never changes,” added Roush Fenway driver. “I don’t come to the racetrack and say, Man, I don’t want to win today. I want to run fifth. So we always go to win.”
Kenseth has been up front about team performance and feels that runs like today are a step in the right direction.
”We haven’t been performing,” said Kenseth who was the 2003 series champion. “The whole company hasn’t been performing the way it needs to win a championship. And that’s not being negative or anything. It’s just obvious. Everybody can see that.”
Kenseth sees finishes like Sunday’s as positive, but also knows it’s not something that will happen overnight.
“We got behind a little, and we’re working hard to get that back.”
