Legendary NASCAR promoter H.A. ‘Humpy’ Wheeler didn’t stay retired for too long.
Wheeler who retired as the long time president of Lowe’s Motor Speedway last year, is set to announce that a tire-testing facility will be built in the Charlotte North Carolina, the home of the majority of NASCAR teams. Wheeler will make the official announcement during a press conference to be held Thursday morningaccording to a report in the Charlotte Observer,

Officials are expected to announce the formation of a private consortium of automotive and motorsports companies to address tire safety, wear and energy-efficiency issues.
The consortium and facility would “extend the Charlotte region’s lead in the automotive and motorsports engineering industries,” according to a press release.
Wheeler is currently chairman of the Charlotte Regional Partnership, a public-private economic development organization
