LONG POND, Pa.—One of Monday’s big gainers was third-place finisher Clint Bowyer, who hasn’t given up on a position in the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup—far from it. Bowyer gained one spot to 15th in the standings and trails 12th-place Greg Biffle by 115 points with five races left before the Chase field is set.
An astute call by crew chief Shane Wilson to keep Bowyer on the track and in the lead with 42 laps left made the difference, as Bowyer gained enormous track position over other drivers who later made pit stops on Lap 167.

“We need these top fives to try to fight our way back into the Chase,” Bowyer said. “I’m really proud of Shane Wilson and all the guys for digging deep and sticking with it and making a good call there at the end.”
More than picking up a spot, Bowyer moved from 151 points to 115 outside the top 12.
“You can see it. It’s just a long way out,” Bowyer said. “It’s a long road to go yet, but I feel like we can do it. We’ve got some good tracks coming up.”
