DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. –Kevin Harvick smacked the wall during Friday’s Cup practice session and will go to a backup car for the Daytona 500. He’ll drive the same No. 29 Chevrolet that won the Budweiser Shootout last Saturday night but will start from the rear of the field because of the car change. Juan Pablo Montoya also brushed the wall with his No. 42 Chevy, but that car will be repaired in time for Saturday’s 10:30 a.m. practice session.
Kyle Busch turned a handful of laps in rookie Joey Logano’s No. 20 Toyota to help fine-tune the car for the 500.
Jamie McMurray was fastest in Friday’s practice, with a lap at 191.546 mph.
