DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — There’s nothing like an abundance of track time to accelerate the learning curve of a rookie driver, and Joey Logano got his fill Saturday.

Logano was scheduled to run two NASCAR Sprint Cup practice sessions of 60 and 90 minutes, respectively; an 80-lap ARCA race; and the 75-lap Budweiser Shootout on Saturday night at Daytona International Speedway. He was pleased with the speed he showed in the two practices, where his No. 20 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota was sixth in the morning session and 13th in the afternoon.

In the first practice, Logano was sandwiched by his teammates, Kyle Busch (fifth fastest) and Denny Hamlin (seventh).

“I think I’ve got a good car,” Logano said after his first hour on the 2.5-mile superspeedway. “All the Gibbs cars, we’re all right next to each another. That’s good. Everything’s the same, and we’ll keep trying to find some more speed.”

Later in the day, Logano overcame a one-lap penalty for a pit road infraction to finish second in the Lucas Oil Slick Mist 200 ARCA event.
