As expected, NASCAR on Thursday issued new rules to teams in the Camping World Truck Series for the 2009 season in an effort to help manage costs.
The rules are effective immediately.
The following amendments to the series rulebook were issued and distributed to teams on Thursday:
- The crew chief must designate a maximum of 12 active crew members for each event. Active crew members include crew chief, driver, spotter and crew members that enter the truck servicing area of pit road during the race.
- During any pit stop, either under yellow- or green-flag conditions, only five pit crew members will be permitted in the servicing area.
- The addition of fuel and changing of tire(s) will not be permitted on the same pit stop.
- After March 25, teams will not be permitted to compete in more than three consecutive events without using an engine that has been used in competition in any preceding event. This does not include the events at Daytona International Speedway and Talladega Superspeedway.
- When a competitor declares the use of an engine for a future event, the engine will be sealed by NASCAR officials for identification purposes. Seals will be supplied, installed and removed by NASCAR officials only.
The Observer and ThatsRacin.com first reported the new rules earlier this week.
Officials of several teams said the revised engine rules could save their organizations as much as one-third of current budgets for engines each season.
