Bill Davis Racing announced Monday that Triad Racing Technologies (TRT) has agreed to purchase a majority interest in Bill Davis Racing and Triad Racing Development (TRD) .
TRD makes engines for a variety of NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, Nationwide Series, and Camping World Truck Series teams.
“This is an exciting time for us,” said Marty Gaunt, co-owner of TRT. “With the changing economic landscape, we see this as an opportunity to service existing Toyota teams and build the business by providing cost effective engine support and chassis production to all racing teams regardless of manufacturer association.”
Gaunt and Michael Held, co-owner of TRT, entered into the agreement last week. Held also owns Co-Pilot, LLC, a marketing company that sells its services to many NASCAR teams and drivers.
“Triad Racing Technologies will provide services such as engine development, manufacturing and engineering services as well as chassis fabrication and design.” said Held. “Bill and Gail Davis have built strong companies and we intend to carry on the tradition. Clearly, Triad’s history of championship successes are proof that this brain trust led by Jon Dysinger and Todd Holbert will continue to be a force in the marketplace.”
An official announcement from the team will be made in the upcoming weeks concerning details for the 2009 season.
Bill Davis first fielded a team in the then Busch Series in 1988 with Mark Martin. Drivers who have raced for Davis over the years in NASCAR’s premier Cup series include Bobby Labonte, Ward Burton, Kenny Wallace, Mike Skinner and Dave Blaney. In the Busch/Nationwide division, drivers included Martin and Jeff Gordon.
The team was also the reigning NASCAR truck Series champions with driver Johnny Benson. Overall they had five Cup wins, 11 Nationwide/Busch series wins and 24 Truck series wins.
