MOVING ON UP
A technical alliance announced Wednesday between JTG-Daugherty Racing, Michael Waltrip Racing and Toyota Racing Development will put driver Marcos Ambrose behind the wheel of a Toyota in NASCAR's Sprint Cup Series next year.
JTG-Daugherty -- owned by Tad and Jodi Geschickter and ESPN broadcaster Brad Daugherty -- has focused its efforts on the Nationwide Series, but the team will field the No. 47 Toyota for Ambrose full-time in the Cup Series next year. The alliance with MWR helps make possible the step up in class.
Under the agreement, JTG-Daugherty will operate its Cup team from Waltrip's 140,000-square foot race shop in Cornelius, N.C. MWR will furnish chassis for Ambrose, along with engineering, mechanical and other technical support. JTG-Daugherty will get its engines from TRD.
