NEVER GIVE UP
He may have scored a career best finish this past weekend at Kansas, but AJ Allmendinger will most likely not be in the No. 84 Toyota starting this week.
Red Bull Racing is expected to announce that veteran Mike Skinner will take over the car for a few races, with former Formula One driver Scott Speed sliding behind the wheel before the end of the season and full time in 2009.
But while he may be out of a ride, Allmendinger isn’t ready to give up on NASCAR.
"I always feel like I have something to prove,” said Allmendinger. “Especially when you're told you might not be the guy that's going to be back next year."
"You go out there with a little bit of a chip on your shoulder and you fight hard - that's what I did,” he added. “You've got to prove something to team owners, and hopefully they see what kind of character I have, that I'm doing going to lay down. I'm not going to give up, I'm going to keep on fighting.”

1973: Jack McCoy -- the racer, not the district attorney on "Law and Order" -- finishes fifth in the Old Dominion 500 at Martinsville for the only top five of his career. Of McCoy's 20 career Cup starts from 1963 to 1974, 15 are on road courses. The Old Dominion 500 is his only start on a short track.
